Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the Music on Film - Film on Music International Film Festival and Music on Film o.s, we regret to inform you that MOFFOM will not continue in the year 2009. It has been a tough decision to make and we have explored many options to save the festival. However, we have concluded that there is no realistic way to do it.
Malá Strana may have lost its last cinema years ago, but MOFFOM will finally have its own winter “echoes”screening series. The co-organizer of the project MOFFOM Remix at the American Center, Marek Svoboda is eager to attract music film fans for three nights of free film screenings.
MOFFOM will present a series of world music films June 4-8 in conjunction with the exhibition Musika Etnika: Music as a Mirror of Culture, opening May 15 at the Czech Museum of Music.
The fifth annual international festival of music films, Music On Film - Film On Music, met the organizers' expectations. From Thursday, October 16th to Monday, October 20th, a film screening marathon took place in Prague. We presented a total of 58 events: films, concerts, workshops and other supporting events. Most cinemas were sold-out, with eager viewers often crowding in the doorways!
The festival jury evaluated the best of the competition section entries; here are the authors and films who received the awards at the closing ceremony at Lucerna: the main prize was given to Maciej Pisarek's SOLO. This Polish movie gives a true picture of the MOFFOM festival vision Music on Film-Film on Music.
The audience award winning film of this year's MOFFOM festival is "Gogol Bordello Non-Stop". It was more then obvious at the yesterday's sold out screening in Světozor cinema, where people were getting up from their seats feeling dancing and the cinema almost turned out into one of the clubs appearing in the film. You have another chance to see the winning film tomorrow 20.10. in the Světozor cinema at 7.15pm free of charge! Before the film we will also announce the winners from the drawing of the audience surveys, voting tickets and accreditation passes. The chances to win are high, find more about the prizes here.
Pete Seeger, one of the awardees, has not been able to come for the award himself unfortunately due to his age. Hi lifetime friend Gene Dietch has represented him and Pete himself sent us greeting from his kitchen in New York's, Beacon. As he wanted to prove his good shape anyway he is 89 years old!, he took his axe and cut some wood for us. You could see for yourself here:
Saturday and Sunday were so far the most succesfull days of the festival. Most of the screenings were sold out and people were sitting on the cinema floor and stairs. The most popular films were the ones in the Planet MOFFOM section, the Lucerna cinema hall is fully booked for the "I'm not there" film about Bob Dylan.
MOFFOM and Jobs in Prague offers you a unique opprotunity to purchase tickets for the Cine-Concert: The Ship Of Fools (October 18th, Kino Lucerna) for 50% cheaper by October 17th 6PM. The line-up has gotten even better, Alexander and Danilelle will be joined by the Tiger Lillies bass player Adrian Stout.
The 5th MOFFOM festival has started with free screening of the Mel Brooks' film The Producers in Lucerna cinema. At the Opening ceremony, the festival awarded Pete Seeger and Marta Kubišová with the lifetime achievement award.
The section MOFFOM DOCS includes documentaries of all genres. In the kinetic chronicle "Planet B-Boy", you will be impressed by the global reach of b-boy culture and see how dance groups prepare for the biggest worldwide competition in breakdance.
Brad Abramson, the executive producer of the successful "VH1 Rock Docs" series on American cable TV channel VH1 has accepted an invitation to the festival. He will personally present six films under the VH1 section.
The PANORAMA section will present biopics. Among these is the superb "I’m Not There", which did the seemingly impossible: captured the essence of Bob Dylan. Another biopic, "Falco", focuses on the biggest Austrian pop star. The dark love story of Potok and Černá,
